FACT OR FICTION?

THREE COMMON RV MYTHS BUSTED.

FACT: The RV lifestyle and industry is rife with myths. But behind every myth lies indisputable truth. So let’ s see if we can dispel some of the misdirections and porkies that are accepted as gospel in the RV world.

1. SPEEDING UP CORRECTS SWAY

This one is based in some truth but it’ s a little more complicated. The principle is sound: by increasing the speed, you’ re‘ stretching out’ the vehicle / van combination and thereby reducing the sideways motion of the trailer. However, unless you’ re tow vehicle is particularly powerful and responsive you’ re unlikely to have the desired effect. The better bet is to apply the override function of your van’ s electric brakes. In fact, reaching down and pushing that button should become as natural to you as changing gears or using the indicator. Of course, it would also be worthwhile looking into having sway control fitted, either when your van is being built or having it retrofitted.
