training, safety and life-coaching elements,
which aims to improve self-confidence and
capability. Surrounded by other ladies eager to
learn, it’s hard not to blossom.
Back at the Pavey camp, we share the
responsibility for our own safety. We’ve
completed defensive driver and 4WD training,
helping us to naturally respond to dangers ‘out
in the wild’. And we’re equally adept with other
requirements such as hitching up, securing the
safety chains, checking the lights, cupboards,
roof catches and related activities.
ROLE REVERSAL?
Of interest to many, in most cases I do the
reversing. Mike says this is because I’m lousy
with directions, but the real reason is I’m just
better at it. I grew up towing trailers and all
those years of experience count for something.

It’s a fact of life he’s happy to live with even
though he’s a bit sheepish when discussing it
around other blokes.
We’ve had some interesting exchanges over the
years as we’ve backed into campsites. Other
people often look on in amazement at the role
reversal. The ladies sometimes clap, whistle or
cheer loudly! And the blokes respond with a
vocal retort. It’s a great conversation starter!
