RV FEATURE
WHEEL BECOMES A WINCH
With the BOG OUT fixed to the wheel, I gently
accelerated. The rungs caught on the tyre and
the twin ropes wrapped around the wheel,
pulling it out, just as advertised.
It’s not necessarily a replacement for a
traditional winch. It won’t pull your vehicle up
a mountain, for example. But in mud or sand –
where you just need to get your vehicle unstuck
– it’s a rather ingenious recovery device
that relies on engine horsepower rather than
battery power. It can even be used in reverse,
so if the situation called for it you could winch
your vehicle backwards out of the bog. Utilising
no metal shackles or steel rope and requiring
less effort, there are safety advantages to the
BOG OUT, too.

VERDICT
PROS
• Takes up very little room in the boot
• Weighs considerably less than other
recovery devices
• Performs as expected – at least,
it pulled our vehicle out
• Uses engine torque rather than
relying on a battery
CONS
• Very few. It’s a little fiddly to ‘get to know’
and our sheet bend knot came undone a
couple of times until we tied it correctly,
but once we mastered it, the BOG OUT
worked well. According to Paul Aubin,
the best place to use your BOG OUT the
first time is in your front yard, and always
read the instructions
