REAL-WORLD ADVICE
LIAM AND AMANDA’S TRIED AND TESTED ADVICE FOR LONG-TERM TOURING.
1. It’s not essential to pack everything you think 7. Travel apps such as WikiCamps, Fuel Map
you’ll need as you can buy it on the road. We
love op shops and ‘buy, swap and sell’ sites.
2. Local radio/newspapers are great to learn
about upcoming events. We wouldn’t have
heard about Lake Gairdner Speed Week had
it not been for the local radio.
3. I n fo r m a t i o n c e n t re s , l o c a l s a n d fe l l ow
travellers are a great resource for tips or hints,
places to go and best camps.
4. Be flexible when travelling. Try not to plan
too far ahead as you may miss out on other
opportunities.
5. National parks are a cheap camping option,
with most having some facilities.
6. Create your own dining experience. A picnic
or home-cooked meal with a bottle of wine
in a picturesque location has more ambiance
than most overpriced restaurants.
and Gas Finder are a great way to ensure you
get the best deal on accommodation, tours,
fuel, etc.
8. Paid tours: not always the best way to see an
attraction. Walks, hikes or self-guided tours
can take you to many highlights without the
crowds or schedule. Free self-guided tour
apps are often available for download.
