ISUZU MU-X
The Isuzu MU-X wagon is getting on, having been
on the market for five years. It feels very much
low-tech compared to more recent arrivals, such
as the Ford Everest. Interior finish – despite a
couple of attempts in recent updates to brighten
and refine it – is still below the best in class.
Despite all this, put a heavy van behind the
MU-X and start towing and you’ll look at it in
a completely different light. While it is not the
fastest of the wagons towing up steep hills, it is
one of the most economical.
Even though it doesn’t have any obvious
advantage in measurements, such as wheelbase
or rear-axle-to-tow-hitch, or kerb weight, over
competitors, it is one of the most stable towing
platforms in the business.
On the downside, Isuzu doesn’t recommend or
endorse the use of a weight distribution hitch.
Nonetheless, it takes a very poorly balanced
trailer to make the MU-X feel anything but totally
planted on the road when towing.
