KEEP IT CLEAN
Keeping your tanks clean is paramount in
ensuring you have drinkable water. Ensuring your
RV manufacturer uses food-grade water tanks is
a good place to start. Using food-grade hoses
to fill up your tanks is also essential. Never use
standard garden hoses.
If you do find that the water in your tanks tastes
awful, there are a number of remedies you can try.
Flushing them with a bottle of cordial is a popular
method to remove unpleasant tastes. In more
extreme cases, flushing with vinegar works well.
There are also specialist RV water-tank cleaning
chemicals available from RV accessories outlets.
tap at least as often as recommended by the
manufacturer.
Finally, don’t rely completely on your RV’s water
tanks. If they are damaged, you may lose your
entire water supply and you might not notice it
until it’s too late.
It’s essential to keep at least one 20L jerry can
full of drinking water in your rig as an emergency
water source.
Whichever method you use, make sure you flush
the tanks completely before refilling them for
water consumption.
Regular maintenance of your RV’s water system
is the best way to maintain water quality. Never
let water sit in the tanks for extended periods of
time. Run water through all the taps regularly to
ensure no stagnant water sits in the plumbing.
