DUMP POINTS
THE MYTH:
Because I’m going to be caravanning mostly in the
tropics, I’ve been told I should buy a compressor
fridge for my van.

THE MYTH:
My toilet cassette reeks and there’s no dump
point around. It will be fine to just empty it into a
long-drop toilet.

In
extremely
hot
ambient temperatures,
compressor-type fridges are considered to be
more efficient than three-way fridges. To assist
three-way fridges to cope with extreme ambient
temperatures, a supplementary fan can be fitted
at the rear of the refrigerator cabinet. You really need to find
the dump point and
dispose of your waste correctly as the chemicals
you have used may react negatively with the
natural organisms in the septic tank or long-drop.
While three-way fridges require strict attention to
the levelling of the caravan, a compressor fridge
will be more tolerant of slopes. EVERYTHING CARAVAN AND CAMPING

THE MYTH:
I should load heavier items in my van over the
axle(s) and then gradually towards the front.
TRUE
The first rule for loading

is to not exceed the van’s
Aggregate Trailer Mass, which is the maximum
the trailer is legally allowed to weigh. The centre
of gravity must be as low as possible. Make sure
you keep the heaviest items on the floor or around
the axle.
