The Nigretta Falls are about 16km west of Hamilton.
“ HAMILTON IS IN THE HENTY WINE AREA, WITH ABOUT
SIX WINERIES OPEN TO THE PUBLIC FOR TASTINGS. ”
We departed from our traditional Sunday morning
bacon and eggs in favour of pancakes – and what
pancakes they were! A three-person team cooked
them on a barbie and then the ladies served them
with all the trimmings: strawberries, blueberries,
cream and/or yoghurt and maple syrup!
BEAUTIFUL BOTANIC GARDENS
We took our lunch to the lovely botanical gardens
– a wonderful area. There's even a well-presented
bandstand with a grassed area that would be ideal
for people wanting to listen to music being played.
Many of the magnificent trees are quite old and
plaques tell you of their history. There are ducks
and other waterbirds on the little lake – a bridge
over the water allows close-up views of the birds.

HEART OF WINE COUNTRY
Hamilton is in the Henty wine area. There are
about six wineries open to the public for tastings
and sales. By arrangement we went on a tagalong
tour to Bochara Winery.
Bochara is a small family business and we were
entertained by the owners, Geoff and Penelope
Slocome, as we tasted their four great wines.
They had done a special deal with ALDI that saw
us sipping from lovely large wine glasses – Geoff
said it tasted better out of big glasses!
They only make wine when the grapes are at their
best – some years if they are not up to the high
standard they insist on leaving them on the vines.
