RV FEATURE
Under the MVSA, an RV was considered compliant
upon registration, allowing people and companies
of questionable skill to set-up shop and market
their RVs (sometimes poorly constructed) to an
unsuspecting public.
But under the RVSA, which was passed by the
Australian Senate in late 2018, all importers and
manufacturers of towable RVs that supply more
than four units per year will be required to register
with the federal government and obtain a ‘type
approval’ for the model of trailer they want to
supply or build.
“NO NEW IMPORT
APPROVALS UNDER
THE MVSA WILL
BE GRANTED”
While there is a 12-month transition period,
no new import approvals under the MVSA will
be granted, meaning most importers will have
to immediately operate under the RVSA from
December 10 this year.
Further, the RVSA requires that each and every
vehicle and trailer be recorded on an online
Register of Approved Vehicles (RAV).
