LET KIDS BE KIDS
I note with interest the discussion regarding
children in caravan parks (‘There Will Be
Tears’, GoRV #30).
Yes, there are noisy kids but then there are also
some really lovely children. The difference is
the parents, those who just want them to go
away and let them get some peace and quiet,
and those who are involved with their children
and spend time with them. The difference is huge.
Let us not brand all children as brats. As for
walking through sites (my pet hate), the worst
offenders are lazy adults! If you must walk
through someone’s site, please check with
the current site-holders that this is okay.
A little courtesy goes a long way in making
a pleasant stay for everyone.

REAL TRIP DATA
Thanks, Marty, for this great article (fuel-saving
article ‘The F Word’, GoRV #30). Such practical
advice and I love that if you’re worried about
the cost of fuel, caravanning isn’t for you.
I couldn’t count how many times on different
forums or sites people bang on about the cost
of fuel, etc. We have just finished a short lap
and our experience is as follows:
Equipment: 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Larado
3.6L petrol;
Kilometres travelled: 20,700;
Days: 160;
Fuel: $5712 (average $249.90 per week).
Minimum price $1.19/L; maximum price:
$2.03/L; rough average: $1.65/L (we got tired
of trying to chase that number as well).
Trip-cost breakdown:
Fuel: 21 per cent;
Campsites: 20 per cent;
Groceries: 14.8 per cent;
Vehicle maintenance: 4.5 per cent (standard
vehicle service and replace shredded tyres);
Alcohol: five per cent;
Tours, etc: 14 per cent.
The remaining balance of this breakdown was
spent on restaurants, souvenirs, etc. Perhaps
if more could share the same info relative to
the above then we can develop some pretty
good data for others in the caravanning and
RV community.
