WATER
WEIGHT
MANAGING EDITOR

When it comes to the weights of our caravans, it’s
downright surprising how the little things add up.
Did you know, for example, that six rolls of toilet
paper weighs about 1kg? I only know this because
I, being a tedious sort of fellow, have weighed
toilet paper.

I’ve weighed a jar of Vegemite. I’ve weighed bottles of
beer. I’ve even weighed a handful of bananas. VIDEOGRAPHER/EDITOR
But one thing I had never weighed was water. Why
should I? After all, it’s common knowledge that 1L of
water equals 1kg. Easy. PRODUCTION COORDINATOR

The effect of that water on ball weight, specifically
where the tanks are mounted in relation to the
coupling, had been playing on my mind lately. As I
write, there are plenty of new vans being built that
have dual water tanks forward of the axles, just
begging to add to the van’s ball weight in addition to
its overall payload capacity.
But by how much? That’s the question we set out to
answer this month. And the results were eye-opening
to say the least.
We all need to carry an amount of water when
travelling. Caravanning just doesn’t work with out it.
But where and how we store it could be the difference
between being, well… you get the drift.
Safe travels.
