3. SHOCK ABSORBERS ON
OLDER VANS/VEHICLES
Most hydraulic shock absorbers are located by
rubber bushes. These are subject to ongoing
compression and release, and tend to ‘work
harden’.
Depending on usage, they tend to disintegrate
(often suddenly) after seven to 10 years.
Replacing them is a DIY task for any person
who can (still) use tools, but it is not a costly
job to have done by a mechanic. Replacement
bushes cost little.
The rubber bushes that locate shock
absorbers tend to disintegrate over time.
