IS THIS RIG LEGAL?
Assessing the legality of a
vehicle/van combination
BY MAX TAYLOR
As I write, my heart is still heavy. But even
as bushfires continued to burn so much of
our country, the Australian spirit wasn’t
dampened. Tales of selfless acts, including
people rushing to save wildlife at risk to
themselves, shone through the orange blaze. Naturally, this is an ideal fit for the RV
community. Rather than stocking up at home
or the major chain supermarket, we should
all keep our cupboards and fridges as bare
as possible, and only fill them up in fire-
affected regions.
A long period of recovery will follow. For
people. For towns. For our natural landscapes.
The ‘Empty Esky’ is one of my favourite
campaigns designed to aid the effort. The Coles or Woolworths can wait. These regional
retailers and producers can’t.
idea is to encourage people to visit a fire-
affected community once it reopens for
business with an empty Esky and fill it up with
local produce.

I don’t mean to promote any one campaign
over another. However, the notion that we
should spend our money where it’s needed
most is one that I think we can all get on
board with.
