KEEP CALM AND TRAVEL
I saw a cartoon the other day that depicted
two shell-shocked people sitting in a
smokey, fiery wasteland. “And that was only
January,” one person said sadly to the other.
It’s true that 2020 has gotten off to a
horrendous start for many people and
communities around Australia but it has been
inspiring to see the RV community respond so
generously, and to continue enjoying the
lifestyle around the country.
I attended a gathering of Hilltop caravan
owners in mid February. The gathering was
held in Seymour, Vic, and it did the heart good
to see so many vanners enjoying one another’s
company, swapping yarns, caravanning tips
and simply having a glass of red or a beer.

Though I think we can all agree that
caravanning is a relatively affordable way of
seeing the country, it still costs a whack of
money. In this issue, we have crunched some
numbers in an attempt to discern whether it’s
more affordable to tow a caravan to a
destination, or to drive unhitched and stay in a
hotel or cabin.
The results were interesting, but when all is
said and done, there are pros and cons to
each travel type.
But the fact that we continue to travel, to
spend our dollars where they are needed, is
more important than how we get there.
