GORV READER DAVE MILLER, WHO
TRAVELS WITH AN AVAN ASPIRE 555
POP-TOP TOWED BY A MAZDA BT-50,
HAS COME UP WITH SOME HANDY
SOLUTIONS TO COMMON PROBLEMS…
SHOWER WASTE BUCKET
On many caravan sites, the top of the grey
water inlet is only a little lower than the outlet
of the caravan. This means that showers, in
particular, are (very) slow to drain. This
shower waste bucket allows the uninterrupted
flow of water into a ‘holding tank’.
This then drains slowly overnight. Any
residual water is quickly drained the next
morning by picking up the bucket to make it
higher than the drain inlet.
The outlet fitting on the bucket has a thread
which allows me to screw on a cap. The
holding tank can then be used as a leakproof
holder for the water hose.
RAMP BRACKETS
Dave says that his van is most stable under
tow when the nose is about 40mm lower than
perfectly level.
“What this means however, is that when we
are doing an overnight-only stay, with the van
still hitched, then the van is not level,” Dave
