FUTURE SOLAR PANELS
It is becoming increasingly clear that the era
of silicon-based solar panels is coming to its
end. The theoretical maximum efficiency, as
noted above, is about 22%.
One of the most promising materials is a
calcium titanium oxide-like mineral known as
‘perovskite’. Prototype cells are already 27%
efficient, and 37% now seems feasible.
Please note that (formally) a solar panel is a
large array of solar modules. The term ‘solar
panel’ is used here as that’s what almost
everyone calls them!
