SHAKEDOWN TRIP ON ICE
Having just purchased a new tug for our
caravan, we would like to take it on a short
shakedown trip to see how our van tows and
also get away for just a weekend.
Last weekend was to be that weekend. Not
far, just an hour or so away. But alas, due to
the unthinking actions of some, we are now
back in lockdown again, seemingly with no
end in sight.
So for now we continue to work in our
essential jobs and in my spare time I will
continue to add all those little add-ons that
make travelling easier, and longingly look at
my van and dream of travelling again.
Please everyone, stay safe, stay away from
everyone unless you have to, stay home
unless you have to, mask-up and wash-up.

BOO COVID!
We have been so hanging out to get away;
due to lockdown we couldn't get away to
northern New South Wales and Queensland
as planned. Boo Covid!
When there were noises about the Northern
Territory opening up, we considered going up
to Darwin. We are in Adelaide, but we decided
to grit our teeth and save up to go west after
January school holidays. Working to a budget
means waiting to make the best spend.

EXTINGUISHING EDUCATION
I see so many fires left burning but the most
distressing aspect is campfires covered with
dirt or sand. I truly think a new set of warnings
needs posting around camping areas, and a
media campaign to instruct on appropriate
methods of extinguishing campfires.
I have been visited by park rangers who offer
information about all and any regulations, and
small talk on fire safety, but not a great deal
on extinguishing them, and I think the general
logic is that smothering the fire will put it out.
I have recently happened onto three fires
where this ‘smother’ method was used
(unsuccessfully) and the potential this creates
for bushfires worries me.
I hope to see a lot more coverage about this for
those who are complacent or ignorant of the
bushfire potential this creates, and don’t get
me started on what burns and what doesn’t.
I hope to soon be reading lots of informative
campfire articles and keep up the wonderful
and exciting articles in your publication – I
love all the information I get from them.
