DIY CAMPER CONVERSION
I'm in the process of converting my first
campervan with my boyfriend and it's
certainly a challenge!
We ended up going for a 2006 Toyota Hiace
Commuter model to make sure we got the
extra height and length. We are loving the
process and have spent some time going
through your previous blogs and videos, but
would love if you guys had more resources on
how to convert a van, eg., install insulation,
set-up your off-grid power, etc.
Our top tip so far is to use 9mm grooved ply to
clad your walls instead of using individual
planks. Not only does it match the curve of the
van’s wall really well, it saves you a tonne of
time and allows you to easily achieve that
‘wooden cabin’ look.
Also for anyone considering converting a van,
here is our advice from our first few months
on the build: It's not as hard as it looks and all
the information is online; and don’t lose faith
when you mess up on one stage of the build
(it's inevitable).

WIN A TITAN TRAY!
We have a 1200x1200mm Rola Titan Tray
roof rack system worth over $800 to give
away to one lucky ‘letter of the month’ winner!
To go into the draw, write a letter to the
editor on any topic, as long as it’s RVrelated,
and submit it below!
The Titan Tray is ready for your next
adventure! Engineered from high-strength,
lightweight, anodised aluminium, the Rola
Titan Tray is ready to carry your gear across
any terrain.
The innovative design allows a wide range of
accessories to be easily attached to all four
sides and the top of the tray. Rated to 300kg,
it’s equipped to handle your needs.
A Low Mount system will also be included,
where available. This uses a smaller, lighter
cross-bar with interlocking blocks to mount
your tray to the rooftop and maximise your
roof load carrying capacity.
(If the Low Mount system is unavailable, a set of standard
carry bars will be supplied instead.)
