FREEDOM CAMP OF THE MONTH
Visit the Julia Creek Visitor Information Centre to collect your RV Stop camping permit .
Julia Creek RV Stop is free , pet friendly , creek-side , and you can walk to town !
And what a place to visit . East of Cloncurry , Qld , on the Overlander ’ s Way , Julia Creek has made tourism its business . It is an RV Friendly Town that welcomes travellers , offering fun ‘ bucket-list ’ activities for all .
If you ’ d like to stay at the RV Stop , you must have a fully self-contained RV – no tents allowed . In this shire , that means “ built in and / or propriety brand toilets secured in the van ”, with a black water holding tank or toilet cassette , and no portable showers .
You ’ ll need to collect a permit , valid for 96 hours , from the Julia Creek Visitor Information Centre , or from onsite camp hosts in peak season ( April to September ).
Located on Punchbowl Road , the RV Stop is just east of town . Camp either side of the little bridge . There ’ s water , barbecues , picnic tables , shade and views . It has our Camps Australia Wide tick of approval – this pretty spot has it all .
Don ' t miss the dunnart feeding when visiting Julia Creek .
ACTIVITIES
Book to see the dunnart feeding at the visitor centre , daily at 10am and 2pm ( weekdays only from November to March ). I didn ’ t know what a dunnart was – but this rare little critter , and the promise of an artesian bath , kept us here overnight .
That ’ s not all this award-winning visitor centre , called ‘ At the Creek ’, offers . We wandered around the beautiful courtyard , with inscriptions and artwork , as well as little
cottages filled with fascinating stories of locals and their history .
