OUTBACK QUEENSLAND IS TEEMING WITH HISTORY THAT SHOULD FASCINATE ALL AUSTRALIAN RVERS .
Mount Isa is poised at the eastern end of the Barkly Highway , and it is here that the RVer must decide which way to head , because 136km to the east , the road forks with the Flinders Highway , delivering travellers to Townsville , while the Landsborough / Capricorn Highway terminates in Rockhampton . If you are not set on either of these Queensland destinations , your choice might boil down to which road has the most interesting places to explore along the way . Let ’ s have a look at both .
CLONCURRY
Cloncurry is 14km from that junction . A close look at the Outback Queensland website will introduce you to a number of Cloncurry ’ s highlights . Perhaps the most important service in the outback is the Royal Flying Doctor Service , and this was first established in Cloncurry by John Flynn . The John Flynn Place Museum & Art Gallery commemorates this , along with the outback radio communication service Flynn also pioneered .
