said. “To say we were run
off our feet would be
an understatement.”
However, despite the
best efforts of the group,
assisted by Marty Ledwich
of RVeeThereYet.com, there
were some teething problems.
It was later discovered
that the brand new scales
purchased for the event had
not been calibrated correctly,
leading to a four to five per
cent variance in the results
of most vans weighed.
“That doesn’t sound like
much but on a car and van
together weighing a total of
5500kg, that’s a potential
variance of around 250kg, and
that is not acceptable in our
books,” Matt said.
But rather than condemn
the group for the inaccurate
results, those who had their
vans weighed have been
overwhelmingly supportive
of the group’s efforts to
educate RVers.
“Honestly, they’ve been
fantastic,” Matt said. “They
understand it was a genuine
technical error and we will
continue to improve our
processes and keep doing
our bit to make the roads
safer for everyone.”
The second independent
weigh-in will take place on
August 12, from 8.30am to
3pm, at a private weigh bridge
at 150 Jubilee Highway East,
Mt Gambier, SA.
“We will also be comparison-
testing my scales to the weigh
bridge throughout the day,”
Matt said.
