Did you know that if you ordered a brand new caravan today , it would probably take about 18 months for that caravan to be built and ready for you to hitch it up for a holiday ?
It ’ s funny what a national emergency does to our collective psyche . Covid , of course , has virtually shut down any notion of international travel . The result : a boom in the Australian RV industry , with interest in travelling locally skyrocketing in a way that it hasn ’ t for a long time .
It ’ s not just the new-RV market that has boomed . The price of secondhand caravans is up , as is the going rate of some old 4WDs . When I discovered what an early Land Cruiser 80 Series in good condition is worth right now , I could ’ ve cried . I sold mine about three years ago for less than what I thought it was worth , but if I had ’ ve held onto it , I would be laughing right now .
But I am trying not to dwell on it . I just hope the guy who bought that old 80 Series of mine was happy with his purchase , as well as the house he bought when he sold it . I ’ m not bitter , I swear .
