RV FEATURE
If you do intend to run big loads for long periods of time , you will want to invest in a reputable brand name inverter that maximises efficiency , and you will want to power that inverter from a high-capacity lithium battery setup . Lithium batteries typically deliver higher voltages during their discharge cycle and they can be discharged to much lower levels than lead acid batteries .
Top tip : Before you buy a big inverter to power that 1000W appliance , check the specifications of your battery to ensure it can cope with that 100A load for the amount of time you will need it . For example , an Enerdrive B-Tec 100Ah lithium battery has a maximum discharge rate of 100A but that is at ambient temperatures of around 25 degrees Celsius and for a maximum period of 30 minutes .
WHAT IS AN AC TRANSFER INVERTER ?
Most inverter installations in caravans and other RVs will have the inverter connected to the battery and a number of power outlets connected to it . These will be separated from the regular mains 240V outlets . If you intend to run a small number of lowpower appliances such as a laptop power supply or a CPAP machine , this arrangement will be more than satisfactory .
If you intend to do a lot of freecamping and you want to run highpower appliances such as a coffee maker , microwave , washing machine or even your airconditioner , the last thing you want is two separate wiring and power outlets . This is where an AC transfer inverter can be very useful .
If you want to run all these 240-volt appliances while off grid , you will need an inverter
