According to AL-KO , the system reacts in milliseconds – faster than a human can blink – and controls each wheel individually , according to what the system determines is required to stabilise / control the van in that particular emergency braking manoeuvre .
Evasive Action Control is another key function of Tow Assist . In the event the driver needs to swerve the vehicle-van combination , the weight of the caravan will shift . As lateral forces increase , the driver ’ s ability to control the rig will decrease .
Evasive Action Control will automatically detect sharp steering input and quickly apply – and disengage – the van ’ s brakes as necessary for the driver to maintain control .
According to AL-KO , this intelligent system will prevent false interventions , controlling each wheel individually , often on different sides of the trailer , in order to stabilise the vehicle-van combo .
The Sway Mitigation function , meanwhile , intuitively reacts with appropriate opposing braking force when it detects a sway event .
Finally , Tow Assist comes with a ‘ Towable Odometer ’, which is exactly as it sounds – mileage tracking of the caravan , with the information displayed on a smartphone app . The benefit here , of course , is that it allows the owner to identify maintenance intervals .
