BUYING USED
Suspension bushes generally have a hard time with high-kilometre vehicles and those that have done a bit of offroad work , so should be checked for wear . Rack-andpinion steering ( on IFS models ) can wear and require a new rack .
The cable holding the underslung spare wheel on early models should ’ ve been replaced by now by Toyota with more secure chain retention .
WHAT ARE THEY WORTH ?
What you should pay for a Land Cruiser 100 used to be easy to answer , when values were relatively stable . With covid-19 , Land Cruiser 100 values ( like many vehicles ) have increased , and there are also many speculators out there as a result .
These are also vehicles that are at least 15 years old , so there are fewer on the road , many that have been modified , many that have done high kilometres , given their mile-munching touring ability . Smaller supply and higher demand has thrown values out of whack .
Unless you ’ re lucky , you won ’ t get any Land Cruiser worth buying for less than $ 20,000 . Even then , it will have done 300,000km as a minimum , with many advertised with 400-500,000km on the clock . It will likely be in tired but serviceable condition for this price .
A top-spec late-model 100 Series Sahara with low kilometres ( less than 200,000km ) and a full service history in excellent condition is a $ 45,000 proposition – at a minimum , if you can find one . There are many advertised for much more than that .
