FUEL CONSUMPTION
Fuel consumption is better than the old truck , too . The Land Cruiser GX returned a shade under 9L / 100km when driving at 100km / h on the highway with no load . In the suburban shuffle , consumption rose to around the 13L / 100km mark . Note : we towed a Millard Toura CD rear-ensuite van with all three water tanks ( two fresh , one grey ) filled for this test , not the Kedron showed in the images .
Lugging a 2800kg caravan , the new Cruiser drank fuel at just more than 19L / 100km over the 200km test loop , which included performance runs and stops for photography . This is perhaps a litre or two better than a 200 Series towing a similar weight in similar conditions .
Based on this towing fuel figure , you ’ d get more than 500km before needing to top-up the Land Cruiser ’ s 110L fuel tank ( down from the 200 Series ’ 138L fuel capacity ).
WEIGHTS
The new Land Cruiser GX shares the same 3500kg / 350kg towing capacity of its predecessor , but weighs 180kg less ; promising for payload figures . Sure enough , payload is 785kg ( up 160kg on the 200 Series GX ), but Gross Combined Mass ( total permitted mass of vehicle and trailer ) is actually 50kg down on the 200 GX at 6750kg .
