FREEDOM CAMP OF THE MONTH
Just 28km down the Killarney Gap Road , in the Narrabri Shire , is Sawn Rocks , in Mt Kaputar National Park . These very unusual rock formations look like a wall of pipes . Known as ‘ organ piping ’, they are perfectly aligned . The pentagonal basalt crystals resulted from slow , even cooling of the molten rock . They are 40m of vertical evidence of a volcanic past .
Sawn Rocks has a 750m walking track and a platform , a picnic area with shelters , barbecues and a toilet .
Further budget camping areas are located at Bark Hut and Dawsons Spring , in the middle of the national park . In the far north of the park , you can also visit the spectacular Waa Gorge .
