First , it ’ s important that you – the caravanner – maintain a safe , consistent speed and position on the road . This will allow the truck driver to determine the best speed for their approach .
As the truck changes lanes to overtake , it would be a good idea to gently ease off the accelerator – do not brake and , above all , do not speed up .
Once the truck has safely passed , and you feel comfortable with the distance between your rig and the road train , it wouldn ’ t hurt to communicate this over the radio .
At the end of the day , truckies and caravanners – along with all motorists – have every right to our roads and highways . Rather than antagonising one another through poor driving practices , employing a little courtesy and a healthy dose of common sense will go a long way towards getting everyone to their destination safely .
