CRUISER DESIGN TRAGEDY
What a design tragedy ! The 2022 Land Cruiser 300 Series loses its split tailgate !
On our LC200 , we use the lower split tailgate all the time , to stand on , to sit on , as a table , as a workbench , as a place to put computers , cameras , drones , etc ., while the upper split provides protection from sun and rain .
The one-piece tailgate on the new LC300 removes all of that fun and convenience and would absolutely stop us from buying one .
And another point : when a boat or caravan with stoneguard is hitched up , the swing of the tailgate is such that it may not be openable . Certainly , standing behind the tailgate to open it will be at best awkward and may be impossible .
What was Toyota thinking ? Love your magazine .
PETROL VS DIESEL
I found your article on diesel vs petrol interesting . Over the years , I have used both diesel and petrol vehicles for towing a caravan and , for me , diesel comes way out ahead .
The petrol engine vehicle was a Nissan Pathfinder V6 and over 20,000km fuel consumption came out at 17.78L / 100km and this was towing a 17ft 6in Viscount Vogue pop-top .
The diesel engine vehicle was a Ford Ranger 3L four-cylinder and over 110,000km , fuel consumption was 12.45L / 100km .
Even allowing for the extra service costs , to me the diesel was streets ahead .
