LETTERS FROM THE ROAD

PARKING THE VAN
When we are parking the van , I ring my wife on her mobile phone from my Bluetooth phone in the Ranger so that I can hear her clearly and can talk to her hands free . It works a treat with no stress .
Obviously the only down side is that you need mobile coverage . But if you don ’ t have mobile coverage , you more than likely are not stressed for space when parking .

‘ UNPROFESSIONAL ’ TRUCKIES
[ Regarding “ Don ’ t Crowd Rest Areas ” – GoRV # 60 ] I just wonder if the same message about parking areas is relayed to truck drivers . For professional drivers I have often found their attitude unprofessional . But , like many things , it ’ s the bad apples .

REAR CAMERA CONCERN
It ' s becoming very disturbing the number of caravanners wanting to use cameras on the rear of their vans .
On one forum , it is a joke that people ask – is it okay instead of using towing mirrors ? We may be a tech-savvy population , or becoming one , but this idea is ridiculous . Do van sales people let them go out of the yard with their purchase with no extension mirrors , or use a friend ' s vehicle to collect their purchase ?
We have seen this happen between Emerald and Barcaldine through the Range – just the standard mirrors , not a care in the world .

Very true , John . In short : rear-view cameras , while fantastic ( especially for reversing the van ), must never be relied upon as a replacement for extension mirrors . – Ed
