RV FEATURE
Have you ever pulled up to a campsite and the ground is less than ideal ? I ’ m talking soft or muddy earth , or perhaps sand . I ’ m betting that the answer to this is ‘ yes ’.
I ’ m sure that at one point or another , you ’ ve found yourself looking for offcuts of timber or similar that the corner stabilisers can rest on so as to give the van that firm-foundation feeling .
The Black Jack Corner Stabiliser Pads are the answer . Made from polyethylene plastic , these pads are exceedingly strong . The company behind the pads , Titan RV , claims that they are virtually ‘ unbreakable ’… so we put that to the test .
First , I swung them as hard as I dared against a large rock . The pads became slightly scratched and there were a couple of small dents , but there was not a crack or split to be seen , not even after I pounded them on a gravel road .
Finally , I piled the stabiliser pads up and drove over them with my 4WD . Surely that would do the trick . But no . Aside from a couple of minor scratches caused by the gravel road surface , they were almost as good as new .
Now , these pads officially have a safe working load of up to 1000kg each . While I ’ ve never measured the amount of weight exerted by a typical corner stabiliser , 1000kg seems like plenty of load capacity .
Further , these pads are easy to clean and will not absorb moisture in the way wood blocks will . They ’ re also stackable and easy to stow – they come with a neat storage bag . Just toss it in the van ’ s front or tunnel boot .
While it seems highly unlikely that you ’ ll ever break these pads , they do come with a lifetime warranty . However , having used and abused these pads , it seems that they truly are a one-time purchase – unless you lose them , they ’ re the only stabiliser pads you ’ ll ever buy .
