I ’ ve been fairly lucky during my various caravanning trips . I ’ ve had to deal with very few problems . My vehicle ( s ) have had no mechanical failures , the vans I ’ ve towed have all hung together . Oh , well , there was that time I basically ripped the awning off by towing the van too close to a tree , and I ’ ve had a flat tyre or two . But , by and large , I consider myself quite fortunate – knock on wood .

Others , of course , have not been as lucky . I ’ ll never forget our article about the couple who experienced carbon monoxide poisoning , which lead to a horrific crash .

When we ’ re on the road , we are at the ‘ mercy ’ of our equipment and our ability to prepare for problems . To help hammer home the need to be cautious and properly prepared , we ’ ve compiled a couple of reallife disaster stories . If they can happen to these lovely people , they can happen to you .

But by being aware and prepared , you can mitigate the risks and focus on enjoying your trip – after all , that ’ s what it ’ s all about .
