The Australian caravan / RV manufacturing industry was given a wake-up call recently when the ACCC released a report highlighting key issues of concern from customers .
In its press release announcing the report , the ACCC said , “ Many consumers reported to the ACCC that when they experienced a failure with their caravan , they were unable to obtain a remedy or that the remedy provided did not fully address the failure .”
ACCC deputy chair Delia Rickard said , “ We are very concerned by these reported failures to comply with obligations under the Australian Consumer Law , and the impact that these failures have on consumers .”
We have since spoken to representatives of the manufacturing industry and it appears that they are taking the matter seriously . In fact , at a trade show for manufacturers and suppliers held in August , a representative of the ACCC spoke to the crowd about their obligations under Australian Consumer Law .
It does not seem that the industry is trying to ‘ sweep the report under the rug ’; rather , it has been encouraging to see that a proactive approach is being taken .
