RV FEATURE
The truth is , wireless cameras have had a a checkered history ; however , the technology has improved to the point that you wouldn ’ t know it ’ s a wireless connection , as evidenced by the RVview .
The system uses a 7in display screen with a suction-cup mount available . If you prefer a smaller screen , 5in units are available as well .
Because it isn ’ t permanently wired to the vehicle , it only takes seconds to put the in-cab monitor into a different vehicle – a huge benefit to those caravanners who rent out their van when it ’ s not in use .
The camera provides a 120-degree field of vision . It also has infrared night-vision lights , allowing you to use the camera when it ’ s dark . The monitor , meanwhile , features distance grid lines that can be switched on or off .
The RVview costs $ 749 per kit ( excluding the optional suctioncup mount ). Anyone handy on the tools should be able to install the camera – the hardest part would be feeding the power cable to the connection point ( usually the parking light system ); however , see a specialist if in any doubt .
Yes , the upfront cost of the kit is a little more than a wired unit , but the saving in installation – not needing to pay an auto-electrician to run wires through the car – should ultimately make the RVview a bit cheaper than a wired camera .
At the end of the day , the RVview is an excellent safety addition to the caravan . Further , the fact you can swap the monitor from one vehicle to another without fuss makes it an absolute winner . Customer Paul Weiss was thrilled with this product – and we can see why .
