FUEL CONSUMPTION WHEN HITCHED !
WORDS : MAX TAYLOR
WE HOOKED UP TO A TANDEM-AXLE SEMI- OFFROADER AND HIT THE ROAD TO FIND OUT HOW MUCH DIESEL THE ISUZU D- MAX WOULD DRINK …
As regular readers of GoRV would know , we ’ ve gotten our hands on an Isuzu D-MAX LS-U + to test out in a variety of conditions for the next few months . We ’ ve already provided an overview of the general fitout and its performance as a tow vehicle .
Last month , we also tested its fuel-efficiency when driving unhitched , and compared our result to the fuel figures Isuzu claims on a combined fuel cycle . The result , 7.5L / 100km compared to Isuzu ’ s claimed 8L / 100km , was particularly surprising .
And we ’ ve been at it again . One afternoon in August , we had a Kakadu Sanctuary III semi-offroader hitched to the D-MAX . Weighing 2460kg Tare , this large tandemaxle van offers all the creature comforts one could want for fulltime touring . It had a little water in the tanks , so its actual weight would ’ ve been closer to 2500kg .
