COMPULSORY LESSONS ?

WE ASKED OUR WALLABY TRACK COLUMNIST , LIONEL MUSSELL , WHETHER CARAVANNERS SHOULD BE LICENSED TO TOW …

There are a lot of ‘ newbies ’ on the road towing their wonderful new caravans . They are easy to spot because they seem to leave no space between their vehicle and the one in front , which means they are making it hard to overtake , as you have to pass both . Often , that ’ s not possible in the available space . This leads to frustration for the ones wanting to overtake and sometimes they take risks to get by .
But I ’ m not sure getting a licence is the answer . More important would be compulsory lessons for people who are just starting out . The instructor would need to be seasoned and know a lot about towing .
With so many very experienced drivers who have been towing safely for many years , I can ’ t see them accepting that they must get a licence to tow .
