When travelling on rural roads , with long distances between towns , it is important to be well rested , having had a good sleep the night before . Take appropriate rest breaks ( 15 minutes every two hours ). This will heighten your alertness . Do not use designated truck stops for your overnight rest breaks . Plan your breaks accordingly .
Co-existing with other road users , heavy vehicles in particular , is an important aspect of caravanning . This includes knowing how to use a UHF radio , with your channel displayed clearly on the back your van to facilitate good communication .
