NSW SPEED LIMIT
I have just read the article about towing licences by Max Taylor . He mentions the speed limit of 100km / h in Western Australia when towing a caravan and I would like to point out that it is also the speed limit in New South Wales if your combined weight is 4.5 tonnes or more .
Most combinations of dual-axle caravans and suitable tow vehicles would easily exceed this weight . I am unsure of the requirements in other states but have found that following this rule to be more than satisfactory .

LICENCES ARE ESSENTIAL
A licence to tow a heavy trailer ( in excess of 750kg ) is essential . Lack of training and testing facilities in regional areas would not be an issue as compulsory licences would attract establishment of such by smart operators as seen with ‘ L ’ driving schools .
The cost of obtaining such a licence would far outweigh the cost of injury and damage caused by inexperienced drivers .
Education regarding towing weights of vehicles and trailers is obviously lacking . During my travels , I often see tow vehicles not legally capable of towing attached trailers .
The ability required to tow trailers in excess of 750kg can only be obtained with proper training and experience . Proper education and driver awareness should be part of the training , rather than ‘ learning on the job ’.
Having stated the above , I admit I am in no way an expert in such matters but my views are based purely on my observations while driving during the past 55 years as a professional driver and very high mileage towing boat trailers and caravans .
Thank you for the opportunity to offer my opinion re towing trailers .
