FIXING A FRANKLIN
As if this latest resto project wasn ’ t enough , Andrew sent us some pics of yet another project that he has on the go . That ’ s right , another caravan restoration ! This one is his 1977 Franklin Arrow .
“ When I was a kid , I would repair this same model of caravan . When I was 10 , I would close all the new caravan doors at the Franklin dealership for 50 cents a day . I can still see all those Franklins lined up , shiny and new , from a Snipe pop-top to a Glide camper and even the 36ft 9in Penthouse mobile home ,” he said .
At the time of writing , the Franklin Arrow restoration was almost complete . A full polish followed by a chassis sandblast and paint were among the remaining jobs .
This van had a dealer-fitted aircon in the front window , as well as a wall-mounted electric hot water service , both of which have been removed . The van is now back to original condition , right down to the tyres . The interior , Andrew said , had been returned to the condition it was in when it rolled out of the factory in Ballarat , Vic , 45 years ago .
