FREEDOM CAMP OF THE MONTH
It is not often you find jawdropping sites without a big hike and drive . But just a short walk from this free , pet-friendly campground at Leven Canyon Reserve is a lookout 275m above the river !
On arrival , we saw the day-use area below the carpark . The elevated campground is quite sloped but there were still flat locations to set-up camp .
The open-fire barbecue and large shelter would be welcoming ! We were there in summer and it was still chilly . Toilets were onsite and water was available , too .
Walks start from the camping area . There is one track called the Fern Walk , with some plants estimated to be 150 years of age ! Our friends took us on the Cruickshanks Lookout Track . It is less taxing and it was easy walking – suitable for any age . It is little effort for a rewarding view and staggering heights , but there are more walks available .
The Tasmanian Central Coast and hinterland is full of freedom camps as well as things to see and do , like nearby Preston Falls .
