CAMP 6 : BALONNE MINOR BRIDGE , QLD

RELAXING RIVERSIDE
Here ’ s a ripper freedom camp in rural Dirranbandi .
On a straight-west road , 64km from Thallon , we arrived in Dirranbandi , Qld , famished . Knowing there was a Russian bakery , their pies and sausage rolls hit the spot . We also picked up a few sweet treats – a vanilla slice and Turkish delight .
Dirranbandi has a caravan park , but as we drove towards Bollon , we popped into the Balonne Minor Bridge and decided it was our campsite for the night .
For us , it was the beautiful river and riverbank that appealed the most . There was only a scattering of vans parked up , and it was well off the road . Our boys , however , loved that the mobile reception was excellent , since there was a footy game on that night .
While they set up , I read my book down on the bank . We had a cracking night under the stars beside the fire , despite a few rodents skirting through the grass .
There are no facilities , just some firepits and a picnic table . It is petfriendly and there is a 72-hour maximum stay . It is definitely a dry-weather campground .
