FREEDOM CAMP OF THE MONTH
Just an hour up the road from Heatley and Michelle at Camps Australia Wide is Maryborough , Qld , a town ( and region ) with excellent options for RV travellers .
If you like the option of being right in a city centre , then opt for a night or two at Alan and June Brown Car Park when you ’ re in this neck of the woods .
Maryborough is on the Mary River in south-east Queensland . It is a beautiful town with scenic drives amongst the old Queenslander homes , where you can picnic beside the river under stately trees or enjoy the old streetscape .
The heritage precinct is well worth a visit too , and if you love Mary Poppins , then you are in for a treat – it is the birthplace of author Pamela Travers , the writer of the beloved Mary Poppins books . There are murals , statues and even a festival here in her honour . The Brolga Theatre next to the beautiful Queens Park is amazing , too . And it ’ s all within walking distance of our featured freedom camp , which is named after an exmayor and his wife .
The Alan and June Brown Car Park is for travellers with self-contained vehicles only . Pets are allowed but there is maximum stay of only 48 hours . Facilities are across the street , as is more RV day parking . Everything is well signed .
So even though this is simply a car park , and you are close to a road , it deserves a feature due to its central location . If you happen to stay on a Wednesday night , you can stroll to the nearby markets ( on Thursday mornings ) and pickup a coffee , your fruit and veggies , and more .
It is also within walking distance of the RSL , which we and many other Camps Australia Wide travellers can vouch for !
