FUEL EFFICIENCY PRAISE
I just read your piece on fuel consumption ( GoRV # 72 ). What a superb piece of classic Max Taylor work it is . Practical , solid information in the main piece . A perfect tone to the various disclaimers . And the extra page was spot on .

ENDORSEMENT RESPONSE
Reply to Steven McPherson ( GoRV # 71 ): An endorsement on a driver ’ s licence to tow a caravan would create no more hassle than a truck driver ’ s semi licence endorsement . So many people have no idea how to load , tow , or reverse a caravan and are a danger to themselves and all other road users .

WEIGHT FOR IT
When is the industry going to support mandatory licence testing and licence endorsements to tow ?
To drive a vehicle over 4.5 tonnes , you need an endorsed licence , yet you can hook up 3.5 tonnes behind a 2.8-tonne 4WD and fly down the road at 110km / h .
Why doesn ’ t the industry openly disclose and discuss weights ? I ’ d love to see / hear discussions on weights of vans .

Thanks for your letter , Donald . Regarding your first question , I don ’ t see the Australian RV industry getting behind any push to make a towing ‘ endorsement ’ mandatory , and this is a subject we ’ ve covered extensively in recent times . Regarding weights , I would argue that they are openly disclosed . Granted , that wasn ’ t always the case , and there have been documented cases in which a caravan hasn ’ t weighed what it claimed to weigh on the compliance plate . However , I believe that , by and large , the industry has improved greatly on that front . – Ed
