There ’ s really something to be said for the quick weekend getaway . I mentioned to someone that I was packing up on a Friday night to shoot off until Sunday . Their response : only two nights away is hardly worth the effort of packing for the trip , not to mention unpacking Sunday afternoon .

Well , when it ’ s just you and your dog , it ’ s particularly easy . I spent a couple nights on the Ninety Mile Beach earlier this month , just me and Marvel – my ever-faithful rottweiler – with an OurGen Flynn pod camper as home base . A couple of nights under the stars , some time spent walking on the beach , fish and chips from the general store … it was just what I needed . Sure , it was in the depths of a Victorian winter and the nights were brutally cold , but a campfire and an extra blanket and I was fine .

Two nights in cold weather might be enough to convince you to stay home instead . But with a little effort and the right attitude , it ’ s surprising how restorative a weekend getaway can be . If it ’ s been a while , I highly recommend you choose a spot and just go . A quick trip can make all the difference .
