Regular readers would know I prefer small vans that employ clever design features in order to provide all of those necessary comforts despite the size limitation .

I managed to get away with a little van from a newish player in the small-van market this month . While this van didn ’ t have a bathroom , it was a comfortable step up from the tent I often use for quick getaways . Give me a bed , a roof over my head and a way to charge my camera batteries , and I ’ m a happy camper .

Mind you , if I was on the road full-time , I would want a 20-footer with a club lounge and all the fruit ; otherwise , just give me a single-axle rig , a campfire and a night filled with stars . Oh , perhaps a beer too .

So when it comes to finding that perfect van , it ’ s important to truly understand your wants , needs and , most importantly , your travel intentions . Otherwise , there ’ s a very good chance your van will end up on the used market or as an expensive backyard cubby for the kids .
