RV FEATURE
DURABILITY
Will my Starlink system survive the outback ?
I would say yes but with some caution . The dish and the router are well-made . The stand is all metal and very sturdy . But the cable connecting the router to the dish does seem to be a weak point . The plugs are prone to damage from dirt so you need to be aware of that .
WHAT ’ S THE FUTURE FOR STARLINK ?
This is like asking how long is a piece of string . At the time of writing , Starlink was about to release a new generation router with improved wi-fi performance and more connection flexibility . The satellite network will continue to expand and improve . There may even be improved antennas with lower power consumption but that is yet to be formally announced .

It ’ s hard to say what the future is with regards to the ongoing costs of access but there ’ s nothing to suggest it will get more expensive anytime soon .
As far as competition is concerned , well , there isn ’ t any , at least not for mobile users . There is a competitor to Starlink in the winds . OneWeb is a European company with plans to have a space-based internet service up and running by some time in 2023 . It uses a similar low earth orbit satellite technology to Starlink , using a smaller number of satellites in a higher orbit . OneWeb has had a bit of a checkered past , financially , but recent investors have breathed new life into the venture . Whether it is as successful as Starlink remains to be seen .
Amazon has also announced its intention to enter the satellite internet market , showcasing some interesting dish designs that look to favour mobile users . They haven ’ t started launching satellites as yet , so that ’ s a long way off from becoming a reality .
