From there we headed to Lakes Entrance , this is where the Gippsland Lakes meets the Southern Ocean and beyond . There ’ s nothing quite like sitting up high and so comfortably in a campervan . We loved the ability to stop and have picnics by the sea and not worry about where we were going to stay .
We chose one of the Big4 caravan parks in Lakes Entrance and loved the fact that it had a collaboration VIP arrangement with one of the local gyms / pools because it is important to keep up the exercise while on holidays .
We set our alarm , rugged up and took a private fishing charter in Lakes Entrance . The rising sun and the still waters were an absolute delight . As we meandered through the heads , we could see a large seal colony feasting on the fish as the tides changed . It wasn ’ t long before we were casting our rods and pulling in decent-sized snapper and other species . We were fortunate enough to load our fridge and freezer up with fresh snapper for the days ahead .
The caravan parks and especially their amenities were another surprising part of our journey . They have certainly come a long way since the 70s when we last stayed at one ! There is a real community vibe with communal areas to get to know likeminded spirits . We could have been mistaken for grey nomads but we prefer to think of ourselves as a couple in their 50s doing something new and exciting .
