PAWS AND PUPPETS

84 \

THIS MONTH , DEAN AND ADAM , ALONG WITH THEIR CUTE CAVOODLE TWYLA , TAKE US TO THE VICTORIAN TOWN OF KANIVA , A PLACE WHERE EVERYONE ’ S WELCOME …

When a friend recommended that we check out a puppet shop in a small Victorian town called Kaniva , near the South Australian border , I had to admit I was curious … and it was that curiosity that took us there .
Heading along the Western Highway on our way to Kaniva , we parked the campervan to check out Pink Lake . The lake is a sight to see , with its colouring caused by pigment produced by bacteria in the water .
Upon arriving in Kaniva , we parked at the start of the main street , where we found ourselves at the beginning of the Sheep Art Trail . The sculpture trail , a community art project celebrating the town ’ s sheep heritage , spans 900m , from the Big Windmill , connecting Kaniva ’ s silo art , to the Kaniva Wetlands and Fauna Park . We strolled along the main street , checking out the local shops and the array of painted sheep sculptures . The town had many photo opportunities for historical architecture and its colourful streetscape , with flower beds running the length of the main street .
