Food , water , power and time . These are the main limiting factors when it comes to caravanning , and it seems we devote a lot of effort into maximising each .

In this issue , Marty Ledwich takes an in-depth look into the ways we can keep our van ’ s batteries charged . After all , there are numerous ways to achieve this . It doesn ’ t all have to be about solar .

Energy access is one of the most important things for a successful , memorable trip . When we think back to the trips we took as children , we didn ’ t have anywhere near the options that we do now . But then again , we didn ’ t have the same devices and appliances that we tend to take these days , either . Leaving the 12V coffee machine behind is unthinkable . In fact , just writing that sentence gave me stabs of anxiety !

All of this equipment , however , is useless without a way to charge our van ’ s batteries when off-grid . In recent times , I have become a fan of portable lithium batteries as a way to augment my power needs , and Marty has even found the time to test one of the latest Bluetti offerings . If you ’ ve not looked at portable lithium power , I highly recommend you do – my lithium power station has transformed the way I camp .
