Here is a handful of our favourite Victorian free-camps :
Mount Franklin , Hepburn : The campgrounds provide drop toilets and are situated in the middle of an extinct volcano , with picturesque pine trees running up the side . You can walk the volcano rim and the grounds are a stone ’ s throw from Daylesford and Hepburn Springs .
Kendalls Campground , Rubicon : Close to Lake Eildon , this campground provides drop toilets and private sectioned areas for camping with concrete fire pits . As it ’ s a popular spot , you ’ ll never be alone .
Colac Lake , Colac : Not far from the town of Colac , the campgrounds provide flushable toilets and a handful of fire pits . You can enjoy a sunrise view overlooking the lake , which is water sport-friendly .
Knowing what we know now , we would hate to imagine what we would ’ ve missed out on by not free-camping for the very first time .
